Jakobsen's Dictionary is online
Link to Jakob Jakobsen's 'Etymological Dictionary of the Norn Language in Shetland' online
An online facsimile of Jakob Jakobsen's Etymological Dictionary of the Norn Language in Shetland (1928) has now been made available by the Internet Archive.
This famous two-volume dictionary was based on Dr Jakobsen's research in Shetland in the 1890s. It was first published in Danish in four volumes between 1908 and 1921. A facsimile reprint of the English version was published by Shetland Folk Society in 1985, and has been out of print for some time.
Links to other online dictionaries appear on our Dictionaries page: James Stout Angus's A Glossary of the Shetland Dialect (1914) and Thomas Edmondton' s Etymological Glossary of the Shetland and Orkney Dialect (1866). Both are on the Internet Archive site.
From our Dictionaries page there is also a link to the online Dictionary of the Scots Language, which incorporates the The Scottish National Dictionary and A Dictionary of the Older Scottish Tongue (from the 12th century to 1700).
